A Welcome to New People

December 31st, 2008 (09:48 pm) reminisce

UPDATED: March 24th, 2007

Welcome to those who just found themselves friended, hit up for a friending, or that just friended me.

I've friended you because you either amuse me, I find you insightful, I think you're interesting, I find you so hot you're making parts of my shiver in hidden places (how many of you just decided "oh hell no?"), or I was bored and thought I'd add one more person to an already annoyingly long friends list.

If you just friended ME, then please fill out the poll at the bottom of this entry (behind the cut), and let me know how you found me. It's nice to see new faces, but even nicer to know where they came from.

I'm bipolar.. I tend to go through regular swings of depression and normal. I rarely do true manic. If you can't handle depression, boredom, general crappiness, etc.. deal. I'll change to a more... upbeat(ish) person, eventually. If you want to know more about me, read my profile.

If you've recently friended me and are not friended back, it's no big deal.  You will only be friended if a) I want to read you, or b) you have requested (via the below poll) to be added to specific filters.  If you have not opted in to any filters, and I have not friended you, my apologies.  Unfortunately, time is precious, and there are only so many people I can comfortably read.  I'll still look in on your journal, from time to time.  If you really want me to take notice (which usually leads to your being read regularly, and friended), then participate in my journal (commenting, etc...).  A lot of what I write is as much for you, as it is for me.

If you are friended, then you need to decide if you want in on any of my opt-in filters. Because some of my comments and whatnot can be so opinionated or differing from the norm, I keep some locked groups. If you want in, specify which ones and - unless I really feel uncomfortable with it (unlikely) - I'll add you to them within a week. Additionally, you may find yourself automatically added to a particular filter/group. Normally, I'll only auto-add if you fit along the general lines of the filter. For instance, polyamorous people may be auto-added to the relationships people. Eclectic spiritualists/open religion-type folk may be added to the spirituality filter. If you wish to be removed from a filter at any time, you need only comment and let me know. Additionally, filtered posts are always subjected with the name of the filter in brackets, like so: [Filter] Subject here. (*Note:* For sexual/adult content, I have another journal which is linked to from my userinfo page. Entries in that journal (save for a very few which are locked to only one or two users, specifically) are entirely public. I rarely update that journal, now, and sexuality is slowly be reintegrated into this journal. If, at any time, you are uncomfortable with something I have left public, please let me know and I will consider a filter for it.)

The Filters, and their descriptions... )

Other Groups... )

If you have questions about me, questions about my journal, questions about moose(s?), or questions about anything, feel free to e-mail me. You can try to find me online, but I rarely get on that AIM s/n (and I keep my regular one a closely guarded secret). Now that I have Trillian, I am ALWAYS "invisible" on AIM, Yahoo, ICQ, and MSN. On IRC I have so many nicks, it's pointless to try to find me.  If you IRC, feel free to ask me for a network/nym list. So..

Now comes the time to fill out the nice little "New friends" poll.  This poll lets me find out where you found me, why you friended me, whether I should friend you back, lets you choose which filters to opt in to, etc...

The Poll... )

welcome.
woot, or something.

There's at least 1 person on your LiveJournal that wants to date you or sleep with you. So, let's play Friends With Benefits! (cue ominous music)

The rules are simple:

- If you would like to date the person who posts this (for this purpose, interpret as, "If you were available, I'd be interested"), post a comment saying, "I'm yours."*

- If you would like to just sleep with the person and stay friends, post a comment saying, "I'd go for that."*

Are you scared? You ONLY live ONCE! The kicker is that you MUST repost this and see if it's true for you. eta: post or not. i won't mind either way.

All responses will be screened. No one will ever know if you'd do me.

Except you. And me. Feel free to make more *interesting* comments too ;)

* Note: I will not be squicked or freaked by same-gender responses. Anyone who's likely to respond to this, I trust is capable of accepting, "Thanks, but I'm not wired that way," with good grace.

(Doesn't mean anything will come of it. Sometimes we want what we no could never be. Just cause you respond doesn't mean I'll suddely go "...but you said..." I leave the first move up to you, and unless you specifically say "first move", this isn't the first move, so nyah.)

Work just called, amazingly. Apparently Brent has been nice enough to give us all the day off, tomorrow, paid, and the people trapped in the building are getting double time so long as they're working, and regular time when clocked "out".

My shoulders and arms are hurting from the freaking machetes and gunfire, and my ears are ringing from the constant "blam" of the rifles, "whoom" of the shotguns, and "sputta-sputta-sputt" of the burst-fire subs... I figured it was time to take a break from sentry duty and update LJ. I'm really surprised the infrastructure is intact. I mean, what the hell....

I guess I should start from earlier, but [info]rowenablue pretty much covered it. What she didn't put in...

When I went to get my dad, he was resistant. I guess he hadn't been paying attention to me all of those years. I finally told him "Okay Dad. Either you come with us, or you're on your own. I will not be back down here, and we will not take you in if you come. Period." He finally decided that at the worst, he could leave. We filled up his SUV and my truck with gear from the garage, food from his pantry, and my DVDs (what the hell, it work similarly in Shaun of the Dead, and it would give us something to watch until the power went out. We also grabbed the wood from the old fence posts, etc... from behind dad's garage, and all of the knives, swords, and blades in the house (some of my stuff still at dad's). On the way back, I detoured by a couple of stores. Amazingly Home Depot wasn't open yet, or swamped with people. Then again, it was 5:30am. We broke in, grabbed plywood, machetes, and all the batteries we could deal with, and threw them into the vehicles. Dad was a little pissed about this. I told him to deal, and leave money if he wanted to, but in a few hours it wouldn't bloody well matter. When we came home, I purposefully took him by the still burning wal-mart/specs before turning into the neighborhood.

We get back, and start unloading. The stoner guy from next door pokes his head out of the garage and says "Thank god, I thought they were here, already." I laughed and said "No, only us..." and then "...machete?"

"No," he laughed, and tossed me something. I grabbed it from mid-air and realized it was a .22 rifle. I handed it to dad. Neighbor guy then said, "Come on in and take a look at the armory."

I blinked, and when I walked in, I was amazed. It was like The Matrix... "guns... lots of guns..." Mostly .22 and 30.06 rifles, several 12 guage shot guns, and about eight nice sub-machine guns with folding stocks, modified for single, burst, or full auto-fire. Yeah, we invited them to join us. Turns out they were survivalists, as well as stoners. Well, whatever works.

It's with some sense of irony that I note that our satellite signal has come back. All of the news stations are completely off the air. As in "We're sorry, this channel is temporarily unavailable. DirecTV is aware of this problem. There is no need to call." Everything else? Normal stuff. Well, everything except Chiller, which is currently running a b-rated zombie movie marathon.

Phone service in the city is apparently down. Our VOIP phone is still working... somewhat. We can call cellphones, sometimes. We can call other VOIP users. We can call Comcast all we want (they don't answer). Cellphones are still working, but usualy just for other cellphones. I managed to get a call to Virginia. It didn't last long... My aunt is probably worried, now, but everything up there seems to be just fine, from what I could get in the two minute conversation. She apparently doesn't know anything about what's going on down here. We may be under some sort of a news quarantine.

Joni saw the first of the fuckers lurching down the street around 7:45am. We made the decision to hold off as long as possible and do nothing. Fortunately, we already had the house as sealed as we could. We started taking watch from the backyard. We had reinforced the fence. Fortunately, the neighbors used to have dogs, and had a couple of soft muzzles, so we were able to keep the dogs quiet (look, the goal is to stay as quiet as you possibly can. I had to literally smack Neil, when he called out for Kat to come from the other room. Okay, I didn't have to smack him, but I wanted to get the point across. If he wanted more water, he could get it his damnd self, quietly.).

It was 9:45 before the first shot was fired. Some idiot neighbor decided to come out of his house and start shooting at anything that moved. He didn't last long. Unfortnately, every zombie within like two miles heard the shot and headed our way. We finally opened fire around 10:00am when the first ones started coming back on our property. We kill every one of the fuckers we could. We finally got the street cleaned up and joined up with other neighbors. We now have neighborhood patrols. If it doesn't respond when we ask who it is, we kill it. Period. If it was still truly alive, then it's still fine, as we eliminated an idiot (A bunch of guys with guns during a zombie outbreak ask "Who are you?" or "Are you alive?"... well, you answer. If you don't, you deserve what you get... and don't start your anser with "ugh," "uh," "uhm," or anything that sounds even remotely like a moan).

It's been a long day. We're all tired. It's finally quiet, but we hear that the combat lines in the Galleria are being broken through. Pretty much everything east of there is dead, dying, or undead. It's a matter of time until they get this far west, but we figure we may have another 12 - 24 hours if we're lucky. There's a LOT of resistance. I'm going to try to get some sleep. If there's still power and Internet when I wake up, I'll update again. Until then... well... survive.

Question

April 26th, 2008 (01:41 am) reminisce

First and foremost, leave your morals, attitudes, and judgements at the door. I want facts on this, and not opinion and "feelings".  This is cause I'm now curious based on a very brief debate Joni and I had.

I have no child, first off, and know no one in this situation. This is curiosity only.

Okay, let's say I'm a mother.
I have a child.
I do not want  said child, refuse to take care of said child, can't take care of said child... whatever.  I'm gonna get rid of him.
SO... I call DFACS (children's services, whatever) and say that I'm electing to give up my child.

Do I get prosecuted for abandonment? It's technically not abandonment.
Do they come after me for child support? What if I have no money?
Do I get prosecuted for other things?  What's the actual deal, here?
Seriously... I wanna know.
What legalities are there in this case.

What is your personal Power Stone?

OBSIDIAN is a form of volcanic glass. It, like basalt, was created by Pele and She Who Watches, but in a more gentler manner.Obsidian comes in many forms, including black, snowflake and mahogany. All obsidian is good for protection and deflecting negativity. The various forms also have other uses:Black obsidian is great for scrying. People who have trouble "seeing" with clear quartz might give black obsidian a try. Snowflake obsidian is a black glass with white inclusions that look like snowflakes. This is good for centering. Whenever you feel unbalanced and "scattered", try sitting quietly for a few minutes with a piece of snowflake. Mahogany obsidian is a beautiful glossy brown color. It also appears in a black form with brown stripes. This is a wonderful stone for grounding. Holding a piece of mahogany in your hand helps you visualize your roots going deep into the earth. Many arrowheads and knife blades were made out of obsidian. These are wonderful tools to use in ritual to magickally "cut" through the negativity. They can be used in spell work to magickally cut ties to the past, or to cut the connection to another person or item. I have an obsidian athame that I've used in this manner.

I'ma haveta remember this...

April 18th, 2008 (02:50 am) reminisce

From bash.org:

<Anonymous> Now, I’m sure many of you have encountered little shits in supermarkets. Little kids running about and knocking things over, being rude, walking all over their parents, you know the kind. But the worst are the biters. Yes, those little cunts that feel it is okay to bite you whenever they feel like it.
<Anonymous> Okay, here’s the best part. A biter got me today when I was grocery stopping. He broke the fucking skin, too. This was when the gears started turning, the moment I saw a tiny sprickle of blood on the little shit’s teeth as he was grinning at me like the little cunt he is. I made my eyes get wide, and started screaming “SHIT! SHIT!.” Now, my good friend, Tom we’ll call him, was there too, and he instantly picked up on it. He started shouting “FUCK! MAYBE HE DIDN’T GET IT! FUCK!.” By now, the kid is scared shitless and starts crying, and instantly, Mizz Mom appears out of nowhere and starts getting pissy at us for yelling at her kid.
<Anonymous> Here’s the kicker, I look her straight in the eye and say, “Mam, get your son tested as soon as possible, he just bit me and I’m… I’m FUCKING HIV POSITIVE.”
<Anonymous> And now there is silence. Not a peep in the entire store. The brat knows he just fucked up big time because his mom isn’t defending his ass. She just stares at me wide eyed. I walk away from them, buy my shit from the wide eyed cashier, all the while blood is dripping from my calf, making a nice little trail on the floor. And, just s we leave, we start to hear the mother sobbing. Sobbing like the cunt she is.
<Anonymous> I have never felt any more satisfaction than the moment I heard that sob.

Dog Owners/knowers

April 11th, 2008 (11:23 pm) reminisce

Okay, some assistance, please.

We have two dogs...
Jaws: part pit, akita, lab, ridgeback
Taffy: part chihuahua, terrier (of some sort)

Both are at least 10 years old. Jaws might be a year or so older, not sure.

Recently (as in the past couple of days), Jaws has begun doing dominance issues on Taff.  He'll step really close to her, lean over her, with his ears pricked forward in that dominance thing.  Sometimes he'll get right up to where his front legs are touching her.  As you can imagine he's a much bigger dog.  He's done it several times over the past couple of days, and it seems to be accelerating (times between).  On the bed, on the floor, in the living room, kitchen, bedroom, hallway, if they could get on the ceiling, he'd probably do it there.  This is not new behavior for him, he has done this - on occasion - in the past, but usually only when she has exerted her dominance over his space, or done something to semi-warrant it.  The frequency of it, and continuance of it, however, is.  We can't figure out why he's doing it, or how to get him to stop.  My contribution to the stoppage is to watch and whenever I catch him doing it (I haven't, yet), I'll swat his ass with my hand.  A single swat usually straightens him out (as opposed to Taff who you could whap until your hand fell off and she'd go right back to whatever she was doing).

The problem is that when Jaws does this, she'll freak and yelp/snarl, and snap at him. (She usually won't attach to his face or anything, but she'll be plenty pissed off.)  We're worried that he'll retaliate to that, at some point. (When she's even gone so far as to latch on and draw blood when he's done something like accidentally stepped on her, in the past, all he did was bark or bark/growl at her, and leave it alone. But with this new behavior).

This is... they've lived together, same household, same family, since they were pups, for the most part.  Not from the cradle, but taff had only been with Joni about a year, when Jaws came to live with.

The have been no recent major changes.
We moved in December, acquired roommates and cats in January.  Thus far, the dogs don't really play with the cats, but they all tolerate each other okay.  Well, taff gets swatted in the nose a lot from one of the cats for chasing it and sticking her nose right in its face, but meh...  That's all Not New to them.  Can't figure what it is.

Suggestions?  I'm to the point I'm ready to start locking him in the garage overnight, just to separate them.
